Located close to South Africa’s busiest airport Pilanesberg is one of Southern Africa’s most accessible parks. Whether you choose to fly or drive to Pilanesberg, your travel arrangements will be a breeze and yet you will see wilderness area that offers the Big Five and so much more.

 

Directions from Johannesburg/Pretoria

From Johannesburg or Pretoria take the N4 west and turn off onto the R556 north towards Sun City. As you approach Sun City the R510 will take you to the gates in the east of the park. Follow the R556 past Sun City to get to the western gates. The drive to the gates should take you a bit more than 2 hours, but please allow enough time to drive to your lodge before sunset. Directions from Other Cities

If you want to drive to Pilanesberg National Park, all roads lead to Johannesberg. From Cape Town take the N1; the drive will be about 18 hours. From Durban the N3 connects to Johannesburg and the drive will take you about 8 hours.

Flights to Pilanesberg

O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg is South Africa’s major transportation hub. Most international and all local airlines service Johannesburg. With most car rental companies you will be able to pick your vehicle up at the airport and take the two-hour drive to Pilanesberg.

Charter flights can take you from Johannesburg to Pilanesberg International Airport. Please arrange with your lodge for pick-up at the airport.

Black Rhino Reserve

The private Black Rhino Reserve has a separate gate that can be reached on the R565 travelling north. You will sign in at the gate and either drive to your lodge or request for your host to pick you up.

Babukung Gate

The Babukung Gate lies in close proximity west of Sun City. Take the R556 from Johannesburg and follow it past Sun City to get to the entrance.

Bakgatla Gate

Bakgatla Gate lies in the northeast of Pilanesberg close to Saulspoort. From Sun City take the R510 to Mogwase and follow the signs to Pilanesberg National Park. Pass the Manyane Gate on your left and continue until you reach the Bakgatla Gate at a T-junction.

The Kwa Maritane Gate is conveniently situated between the Sun City Resort and the Pilanesberg Airport in close proximity to both.

Manyane Gate is located in the east of Pilanesberg. From Sun City take the R510 towards Mogwase and continue through the town until you take a left towards the gate.
