Pilanesberg is Malaria-free
As far as health and medical concerns go, Pilanesberg National Park is as tame as a wilderness area can be. Pilanesberg is one of the few Big Five wilderness areas that are malaria-free. The lodges have medical services on call and the close proximity to Rustenburg, Pretoria and Johannesburg means that top-class medical facilities are not far when they are needed.
South Africa Vaccinations
The risk of getting infected with any of these diseases is very low, but when they do occur they are severe. Consult your physician about six week before you leave, to find out if you need any vaccinations. Vaccinations commonly given to visitors to South Africa are:
- Hepatitis A
- Typhoid
- Yellow fever (when arriving from infected areas in Africa or the Americas)
- Rabies (if you are in close contact with wildlife)
- Tetanus-diphtheria
If you are taking medication into the country a doctor’s prescriptions can be helpful. If you have any other medical concerns, the staff at your lodge will gladly assist you.
