From the first of April 2015, local airline SA Express will be offering direct flights to Pilanesberg Airport from Johannesburg and Cape Town, after a contract was awarded by the North West transport department. Bookings are already open.

From OR Tambo, return flights will operate 3 times a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays – and flights will depart twice a week from Cape Town – on Mondays and Fridays.

The move should be a considerable boost to tourism in the area, particularly for major attractions such as Sun City and Pilanesberg National Park, which was already one of South Africa’s most accessible parks.

If the Jo’Burg and Cape Town flights are a success, SA Express has said it would consider opening flights from Durban in the near future.

???????????????????????????????

Quoted on Traveller24, Inati Ntshanga, SA Express CEO said, “This is a significant milestone for us as an airline. It marks our coming of age as we turn 21 in two months’ time. For the first time in our 21-year history we will be flying in this province which makes us a truly regional South African airline that connects practically all of our major cities with small and outlying ones in our country.”

Michael Farr, Sun International’s Group General Manager, added “The fruition of this initiative, which has been some time in the making, bodes well for tourism in the North West. The availability of commercial flights to and from Pilanesberg will open up the gateway for easier and faster access to Sun City and the numerous attractions available in the Pilanesberg area.”

So now there’s even less excuse not to visit Pilanesberg this year, especially with the Easter holidays just around the corner. Look out for specials on the site. We look forward to welcoming you!
