Buffalo Thorn Lodge
Buffalo Thorn lodge is an exclusive lodge in the Black Rhino Reserve of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Spacious, free-standing accommodation, a maximum of 10 guests and Big 5 game viewing make Buffalo Thorn the perfect safari destination. The location of the lodge allow for game viewing while you lie in the heated Jacuzzi.
Accommodation
The lodge offers five free-standing chalets with 70 m² bedrooms, en-suite facilities, a lounge and a private deck. They come with a king size bed but can be exchanged for two singles on request. A Jacuzzi bath as well as indoor and outdoor showers allow you to spoilt yourself between game drives. The total number of guests is limited to 10 people creating a unique and exclusive safari experience.
Buffalo Thorn Lodge offers the following options:
- Two family units with a king size bed and a loft with two single beds for children.
- Three double units with a king size bed.
- On request camping cots are available.

Activities
Daily morning and afternoon game drives are included in Buffalo Thorn Lodge’s package. The Black Rhino Reserve is a recent addition to the Pilanesberg Game Reserve and is now an exclusive-use zone. Pilanesberg is a 57 000 hectares wildlife sanctuary that is home to almost all of Southern Africa’s big game including the Big 5.

High quality indoor and outdoor facilities make guests feel right at home. A fully equipped kitchen with a modern gas stove, dishwasher and filter coffee machine is fully serviced. The outdoor area has a swimming pool for hot days and braai (barbecue) facilities for sociable evenings.

Location
Buffalo Thorn Lodge is situated in the Black Rhino Reserve of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. This remote north western part of the park is a recent addition and offers exclusive use to the lodges situated in it. The reserve is covered mostly by sweet veld vegetation and has a large number of Tamboti tress, where the endangered black rhino is often found.
Directions:
Drive towards Sun City on the R556, but pass the entrance to the resort. After about 5 km turn right onto the R565. After 27km you will see the entrance to the Black Rhino Reserve. At the gate you can either request to be picked up or follow the dirt road to the lodge.
